Club JAC representatives attended the International Conference “Together We Are Stronger – Harmonizing the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Activity in Europe”
The International Conference “Together We Are Stronger”, dedicated to the prevention of fraud and corruption, related to the EU funds was provided on Feb. 25. and 26. in Cologne. It was organized by the dbb akademie, based on the financial support of OLAF and it was attended by more than 300 representatives of law enforcement institutions, NGO and financial audit organs of all the 27 EU member states.
Reneta Nikolova (Club JAC Chair) and Alexander Lazarov (Club JAC Board Member) shared our Club experience in the field of anti-corruption and the collaboration with the institutions for effective prevention of fraud with the EU funds in the country.
Bulgaria was represented by:
- Nikolay Georgiev – Head of the Bulgarian Government Inspection Office,
- Rumiana Georgieva – member of the National Audit Office,
- Prosecutors of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office,
- The Bulgarian Ministry of Justice Officers etc.
The event was opened by:
- Mr. Willy Russ – President of the dbb akademie,
- Mr. Franz-Herman Brunner – General Director of the European Anti-Fraud Office OLAF,
- Ms Elizabette Werner – member of the cabinet of the European Comission Vicepresident S. Kallas and
- Mr. Drago Kos – President of GRECO.
The Conference focused on the 3 basic elements for the successful fight against the corruption:
- At least a small dose of political will.
- Concrete and clear procedures.
- Systematic audit activity, based on pre-confirmed criteria.
The Conference pointed out the necessary function of the NGO and the media as a fair and objective observer of the EU funds adoption process.
