JAC Club have lost a dear and respected friend
Both judges and journalists will educate citizens by explayng them their rights and the court procedures. This is laid down in the agreement for co-operation, signed today between the Union of the judges in Bulgaria and "Club-Journalists Against Corruption"
The agreement was signed by the Chairmen of the two organizations - Mrs. Neli Kuckova and Mrs. Reneta Nikolova.
According to Neli Kuckova, the experience shows that joint education of both judges and journalists is effective and the mass education of citizen would be far more beneficial and productive with the support of the media.
Neli Kuckova stated that in September the union of the judges In Bulgaria, the judges from the Supreme Court Council and journalists from the Club will specify their joint actions in regard to signals for corruption, which are involved members of the Supreme Court Council. According to her, it is necessary increase the rights of the Commission for Fight Against Corruption at the Supreme Court Council. The Commission holds the right to assess and to propose to the council to take action against magistrates, for whom there are signals received for corruption but their could not be gathered facts and proofs on the grounds of which the Commission could take its proposals to the Supreme Court Council.
Along with the fight against corruption, the second major challenge before Bulgaria is the successful implementation of the judicial reform and this will be one of our joint activities, said Mrs. Reneta Nikolova. She stated that in the Club there are members who are well acquainted with the problems in the judicial system and have experience in the monitoring on activities of the governmental and judicial administration under EU PHARE Project "Civil Society Development". That is the reason our joint initiatives will be focused on achieving higher level of transparency in the work of the judicial system.
For the first two days, during which the web page of the Club was active, there were received eight signals for corruption and they will be proceeded and discussed with the lawyers in the Club, said Mrs. Nikolova.
